The Victory Banner was ceremonially brought out, opening the parade.

President Vladimir Putin made an address, greeting the participants in the parade and congratulating everyone in Russia on the Victory Day holiday. The President called this date a holiday of tremendous moral significance and a great unifying force.

A company of drummers led the troops. They were followed by groups carrying the banners of the fronts. Infantry, air force and navy companies marched by dressed in World War II uniforms. They were followed by columns of students from Defence Ministry military academies and institutes, then by students from the Civil Defence Academy, a paratroopers regiment, students from the Federal Security Service Border Guards’ Institute, an Interior Ministry Troop regiment, pupils from the Suvorov Military School and the Moscow Garrison Military Orchestra. Once the troops had marched by, the Strizhi and Russkiye Vityazi aircraft groups flew their aircraft over Red Square. An honour guard company demonstrated complex march formations and weapons handling to conclude the parade.

Following the parade, a reception celebrating Victory Day was held at the State Kremlin Palace.
