President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with U.S. President Bill Clinton

The two leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East. Mr Clinton thanked Mr Putin for his support during the difficult negotiations at the summit in Sharm el Sheikh. Both sides underscored the importance of coordinating Russian and U.S. efforts to achieve a settlement in the Middle East, especially during the current crisis period.

The two Presidents also discussed bilateral relations and preparations for a summit meeting in Brunei.

The conversation took place on the United States’ initiative.
