President Vladimir Putin addressed a joint session of both houses of the Indian Parliament

October 4, 2000, Russian Embassy, Delhi

Mr Putin said that Russia supports India’s proposal to form a collective front in the fight against terrorism. The ‘terrorist international’ has already formed, and now those who will combat this evil also must unite, Mr Putin said.

Russia and India share common positions on international issues and believe that problems should be resolved through political dialogue. But the President said that, at the same time, countries must take a firm stance when faced with increasing confrontation within society that threatens sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Mr Putin also spoke about nuclear non-proliferation issues in his speech.
