President Vladimir Putin sent a message to Iranian President Mohammed Khatami

October 16, 2000

The message notes, in particular, that Russia is seriously committed to “intensifying mutually beneficial Russian-Iranian cooperation at bilateral, regional and international level”.

The President also stressed that, “we see the development of good-neighbourly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran as one of Russia’s long-term foreign policy priorities”.

The message expresses confidence that the talks in Tehran with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Ivanov, who has gone to Iran on Mr Putin’s instructions, will “help to strengthen the cooperation between our two countries”.
