President Vladimir Putin met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Anatoly Zlenko

October 23, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

The meeting examined bilateral relations, in particular economic partnership issues, and also discussed international issues, including Russia’s and Ukraine’s cooperation within regional and international organisations.

Mr Putin said that Russia places great importance on developing intergovernmental relations with Ukraine. The President noted that a number of agreements were reached during his meeting with Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma in Sochi: in the economy, space, aircraft manufacturing and the energy sector, and also in the humanitarian sphere. Mr Putin noted that the mechanisms for implementing these agreements would be examined at the Russian Security Council’s next session.

The two countries’ foreign ministers will be responsible for general coordination in this area, Mr Putin said.
