President Vladimir Putin sent a message to President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika

October 7, 2000

The President’s message reads, in particular:

“I would like to make use of this first ever visit to your country by a Russian foreign minister to continue the trusting exchange of views on a wide range of issues that we have been carrying on.

Your purposefulness in raising the international community’s awareness of the needs and hopes of the Third World and your active efforts to resolve conflicts in Africa have helped to strengthen Algeria’s influence in the world. You can count on Russia’s support in these noble efforts”.

Mr Putin noted specific aspects of Russian-Algerian cooperation and said that he sees the current bilateral contacts as an important stage in preparing for Mr Bouteflika’s visit to Moscow. This upcoming visit will take the constructive partnership between Russia and Algeria to a new level, Mr Putin said.
