Mr Putin and Mrs Ogata discussed the situation in the North Caucasus and ways of developing Russia’s cooperation with the UN High Commission for Refugees.
The President noted that UN representatives have done a lot to help resolve the problems Russia has encountered in the Caucasus. Mr Putin thanked Mrs Ogata for her hard work and for the courage she has shown in resolving complex issues.
Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Special Presidential Envoy for the Protection of Human Rights and Civic Liberties in Chechnya Vladimir Kalamanov also took part in the meeting.
Mr Putin awarded Mrs Ogata the Order of Friendship for her great contribution to building international peace and friendship.
