Mr Putin and Mr Chirac exchanged views on all aspects of bilateral relations, and discussed the Middle East conflict and the situation in the Balkans.
They agreed that their countries’ Prime Ministers would meet at the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation in Paris on December 18–19.
At the end of the talks, Mr Putin and Mr Chirac held a news conference.
In the evening, a gala reception was given in the Elysee Palace in honour of Mr and Mrs Putin.
