Vladimir Putin met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier

May 15, 2007, Novo-Ogaryovo

They discussed topical issues concerning Russian-German relations, international issues and, first and foremost, the Russian-European agenda.

As he opened the meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia and Germany are ready to make efforts to overcome existing differences of opinion.

One of the most sensitive issues remains the Russian ban on imports of Polish meat and, in connection with this, the Polish veto on talks for a new partnership and cooperation agreement between Russia and the European Union.

Other disagreements in Russia-EU relations concern the dialogue designed to normalize the situation in Kosovo and the conflict surrounding the relocation of the Soldier Liberator monument in Tallinn.

However, the prospects for implementing the road maps to create four common spaces between Russia and the EU are more favourable.

The Russian head of state also offered Germany assistance and support during its EU and G8 presidencies.
