In his response to the Sultan’s letter, Mr Putin expressed his approval of priority subjects for discussion at the forthcoming APEC meeting and the proposal to make a report on globalisation problems.

The letter said, in part:

“Entering the new millennium, humankind faces growing globalisation of the world economy. Obviously, it is an objective process. However, we should control this process and ensure it serves the goals of progress and people’s well-being. That will make sure more people will see positive results of globalisation, and will ease social and economic losses incurred during the world’s transition to a new stage.”
