President Vladimir Putin met with Chile's President Ricardo Lagos Escobar

November 15, 2000, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei

The two Presidents discussed current issues related to bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic, military-technical, social and cultural spheres, as well as Russian-Chilean cooperation in the international arena.

The Presidents underlined how important it was to use all forms of partnership, including the establishment of inter-governmental commissions. They spoke in favour of a regular political dialogue and called for overcoming the consequences of ideological differences that had hindered the development of Russian-Chilean relations in the past.

Mr Putin and Mr Lagos Escobar placed high hopes on a visit of Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov to Chile scheduled for March 2001.
