The two countries’ leaders discussed topical issues related to bilateral cooperation, including in the economic and security spheres.

Mr Putin and Mr Jiang dwelt on prospects for developing and strengthening a legal framework for Russian-Chinese partnership in the light of the Chinese President’s forthcoming visit to Russia in the first half of 2001.

They also exchanged views on various issues on the international agenda. The Russian President confirmed the Russian leadership’s solid stand on the problem of the ABM systems, which was welcomed by the Chinese side.
