President Vladimir Putin met with Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov

November 20, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

Mr Ivanov reported to the President on the results of his trip to the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region and told him about Russian diplomatic efforts to normalise the situation in the Palestinian territories and settle the Iraqi problem.

President Putin instructed the Foreign Minister to continue active cooperation with the UN, the United States, European and other countries to prevent a heightening of tensions in Israeli-Palestinian relations, stabilise the situation and resume the peace talks. In their conversation about Iraq, they agreed that Russia would continue to promote the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions with the aim of lifting the sanctions against Iraq.
