The law extends the list of athletes’ rights specified in the Federal Law On Physical Education and Sports in the Russian Federation. It provides for the right to be included in Russian national sports teams subject to meeting athletes selection criteria and observing procedures stipulated by the law for the Russian Federation national teams draft. The Federal Law is intended to prevent situations when best Russian athletes who meet every criteria, still are not included in Russian national teams for the reasons beyond their professional performance.
