In his speech, the President stressed that the resurgence of Russia, its wellbeing, political stability and the welfare of all its citizens depended on government policy in the energy field. President Putin stressed the need to approach the massive task of supplying the country with energy in a well-thought-out and precise manner. In the President’s opinion, a clear-cut and well-grounded strategy was needed to develop the power sector, a strategy closely linked with the economic strategy as a whole.

Mr Putin gave government decorations to leading workers in the power sector.

The Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma took part in the meeting.
