President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Finnish President Tarja Halonen

The two heads of state exchanged greetings on the upcoming New Year, and the 80th anniversary of Russian-Finnish diplomatic relations, due December 31, 2000.

Both Presidents stressed the achievements of Russian-Finnish partnership in recent years.

Vladimir Putin and Tarja Halonen discussed plans of Russian-Finnish contacts at various levels for 2001.

Both parties regarded Mr Putin’s visit to Finland, due in the second half of 2001, as a crucial episode of bilateral contacts.

The Presidents exchanged opinions on international affairs, in particular, Russian-Finnish interaction in the European Union framework.
