President Putin spoke at a meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State

September 28, 2001, Moscow

The participants focused on international issues, including counter-terrorism, financing of the CIS Counter-terrorist Centre, and preliminary results of the CIS 10-year existence.

Opening the meeting, President Putin suggested ‘analysing the mistakes made in such a big task as building relations between the brotherly states.’

Mr Putin noted with approval that following the tragic events of September 11th in the United States the CIS countries had agreed to create a unified counter—terrorist front. He also stressed that Russia had expressed its position on the issue after the consultations with the CIS Heads of State, primarily with Central Asian countries.

The President underlined the importance of supporting counter-terrorist technical structures, including the CIS Counter-terrorist Centre.
