Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian President Robert Kocharian met at the negotiation table

Economic problems were among the principal issues on the agenda,in particular, Armenian debt payments to Russia. The debt amounted to $100 million, as of September 1, 2001.

The Presidents discussed the Karabakh settlement, the Caucasian Four and the Caucasian situation as a whole.

They also analysed certain aspects of teamwork within the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, where Armenia presided in 2001, anti-terrorist efforts and the CIS, in particular, its upcoming jubilee session, due in Moscow on November 30.

As he was opening expanded talks, Mr Putin said that he and President Kocharian had discussed all aspects of bilateral economic relations in an eye-to-eye meeting.

The Presidents also confirmed the use of adequate forces and means to guarantee security along the borders of both counties, Mr Putin added.
