As agreed in a previous telephone conversation, Mr Chirac shared his impressions of his visit to Washington and the negotiations he had with US President George Bush. In that context the Russian and French leaders expressed their satisfaction with the emerging consensus in favour of uniting the world community’s efforts on a lasting basis in the struggle against international terrorism.

Mr Putin and Mr Chirac stressed the need to activate all international mechanisms for these purposes, above all the UN and its Security Council.
