Vladimir Putin sent a message to Italian President Giorgio Napolitano congratulating him on Italy's national holiday, Republic Day

June 2, 2007

The message reads, in particular:

“I have warm recollections of our recent meeting in Rome, a meeting that confirmed the traditional harmony and understanding between our countries. In recent years Russian-Italian relations have reached a new stage of genuine partnership in political, trade, economic, cultural and educational spheres. Russia is ready to continue to engage in time-honoured cooperation and make all necessary efforts to develop the whole range of our bilateral relations.

We have good prospects for cooperation in resolving urgent global problems. I am convinced that joint efforts by Russia and Italy will help promote a harmonious, democratic system of international relations based on respect for the law and collective action as a means to ensure security and stability in the world.”
