The President visited Kurkino, one of Moscow’s pilot residential areas, where multiple storey buildings are being constructed.
Vladimir Putin expressed his admiration for the Kurkino project. The President noted that the project is the result of integrated development, the desire to resolve social problems, environmental issues and conserve energy, and architectural innovation.
The main feature of the Kurkino neighbourhood is architecture that is unusual for Moscow and a large number of trees. The area occupied by buildings in Kurkino is 7,500 square metres per hectare — two times lower than Moscow average. Construction of the pilot neighbourhood began in 2000. 25 design institutes worked on planning the neighbourhood.
The head of state visited the Health School and Education Centre, one of the schools in Kurkino. The school has a swimming pool, salt cave for children with respiratory diseases and 18 other different health centres. Children receive a thorough medical examination before entering the school. Almost every day children receive three physical education lessons.
There are presently four schools in the neighbourhood and they will eventually number six.
