The G8 heads of state and government adopted an economic declaration, Growth and Responsibility in the Global Economy

June 7, 2007, Heiligendamm

The Declaration contains the following sections: the G8 agenda for global growth and stability; stability and transparency on financial markets; investment freedom, the investment climate and social responsibility; encouraging and protecting innovation, energy efficiency; and responsibility for natural resources.

The Declaration also has a section on the fight against corruption and a section on the Heiligendamm Process – the top-level dialogue between the G8 countries and the world’s fast-growing developing economies, represented by Brazil, India, China, Mexico and South Africa.

The Declaration notes that great progress has been made since last year’s summit in St Petersburg to increase energy efficiency, diversify the ‘energy basket’, make energy infrastructure more secure and reduce levels of ‘energy poverty’.

The G8 leaders will work together to ensure energy security and make global energy markets more transparent, predictable and stable.

The G8 leaders agreed on a ‘gradual levelling out of global imbalances’ in the economy through sustainable growth.
