Vladimir Putin held talks with American President George W. Bush

June 7, 2007, Heiligendamm

The U.S. missile defence system was the main topic of discussion.

Vladimir Putin suggested to the U.S. President that they both use the Gabala radar station that Russia leases from Azerbaijan as an element of the missile defence system. The Russian head of state expressed his confidence that implementing his proposals will allow them to effectively monitor Iran’s missile programme.

George W. Bush confirmed that Russia and the U.S. have decided to engage in strategic dialogue with military representatives and diplomats on the problem of missile defence.
