Mr Putin began the talks by speaking about the broad opportunities for cooperation that Russia and China have within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The President also noted the successful implementation of the Russian-Chinese cooperation programme and gave an assessment of bilateral relations in general.

Mr Hu, for his part, noted the regular top-level meetings between the Russian and Chinese leadership and said that this is a sign of stability and consistent development of relations between Moscow and Beijing in all areas.
