President Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov

Mr Ivanov gave Mr Putin an update on the performance of the coordinating group created on the President’s instructions and entrusted with implementation of the tasks set forth in the President’s statement on the situation in Afghanistan and Russia’s efforts in that regard.

The coordinating group includes representatives of the Defence, Foreign, Internal Affairs, and Emergency Situations Ministries, the Federal Security Service (FSB), the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Federal Agency for Governmental Communications and Information (FAPSI).

The Minister also briefed the President on the implementation of presidential instructions to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

Mr Putin and Mr Ivanov also discussed cooperation between the CIS, the United States and other anti-terrorist coalition member countries, and deeper cooperation between Russia and NATO in various spheres.
