President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez

October 5, 2001

The Venezuelan President extended his condolences in connection with the Tu-154 air disaster over the Black Sea.

The two leaders discussed cooperation in fighting global terrorism, stating that this threat now affected the entire world community rather than being restricted to the Middle East or Central Asian regions. They expressed satisfaction with the closeness of the two countries’ approaches to the anti-terrorist struggle.

Mr Putin and Mr Chavez discussed current issues related to trade and economic cooperation in the light of agreements reached by two countries at a bilateral summit in Moscow last May.
