President Vladimir Putin and Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong held talks in Hanoi

The leaders discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, including prospects for cooperation in the political, trade, economic, military-technical and scientific fields, as well as current international and regional problems.

Following the talks, Mr Putin and Mr Tran adopted a declaration on strategic partnership. A number of intergovernmental agreements were signed in their presence, including the Protocol to the Agreement on Further Cooperation in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production in the south of Vietnam, to be fulfilled by the joint venture Vietsovpetro, the Protocol for Contractual and Legal Auditing and Implementing Bilateral Agreements, a memorandum of understanding between the Russian Emergencies Ministry and Vietnam’s State Committee, and the Agreement between the Russian State Committee for Standards and Measurements and the Vietnamese Ministry for Science, Technology and the Environment on Cooperation in Standardisation, Measurements and Certification.

The Presidents made a statement to the press and answered journalists’ questions.
