President Vladimir Putin met Iranian President Mohammad Khatami

The two leaders had a one-to-one meeting before moving on to talks with their delegations. The agenda embraced various aspects of Russian-Iranian cooperation, including trade, politics, military technology, science, culture and education. Specifically, financing of joint projects in industries such as aircraft building, power engineering, and oil and gas was discussed. The sides also exchanged views on topical international and regional issues.

The Presidents signed a joint statement on the legal status of the Caspian Sea and a treaty on principles guiding relations between Russia and Iran. They also released a Russian-Iranian communique.

Mr Putin and Mr Khatami summed up the talks at a joint press conference and took questions from reporters.
