President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone to British Prime Minister Tony Blair

Mr Putin and Mr Blair discussed different aspects of Russian-British cooperation and said they were satisfied with the pace of mutual dialogue last year and expressed hope that such dialogue would be expanded still further in 2001.

They also discussed several international issues and exchanged opinions on the upcoming G8 summit, slated for the summer of 2001.

Their 25-minute conversation focused on relations between Russia and the European Union. Mr Putin and Mr Blair discussed Russia’s subsequent integration into the global economy and its involvement in international integration processes.

The conversation took place on the initiative of the British side.
