Vladimir Putin met with Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber

Vladimir Putin and Edmund Stoiber said that Russia and Bavaria both favour close cooperation.

Mr Stoiber congratulated Vladimir Putin on Sochi's victorious bid for the right to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

After their formal talks, Vladimir Putin and Edmund Stoiber took a walk around the Kremlin. The President pointed out the Kremlin's various tourist attractions. Vladimir Putin and Edmund Stoiber watched the changing of the foot and horse guards of the Kremlin regiment, which was held in Cathedral Square.

Responding to journalists' questions, the Russian head of state expressed his optimism about the future of relations between Russia and the European Union.

The Bavarian Prime Minister, in turn, expressed support for Russia's close cooperation with the USA and NATO in matters concerning the development of a missile defence system.
