Mr Saakashvili congratulated Mr Putin on Russia’s great success – the International Olympic Committee’s decision to award the right to host the 2014 Winter Olympics to Sochi.
Both leaders said they were sure that organising such an important world event in southern Russia would benefit the situation throughout the entire region and would help to strengthen peace and understanding in the Caucasus.
The telephone conversation took place at Georgia’s initiative.
