The Russia-European Union summit opened with a bilateral meeting of President Vladimir Putin and Goran Persson, the Swedish Prime Minister and President-in-Office of the Council of Europe

Mr Putin and Mr Persson discussed topical issues of Russian-Swedish relations and the prospects of Russia-EU partnership—in particular, in trade and the economy, capital investment, and the social and environmental fields. They highlighted the steady progress of bilateral relations and of Russia’s contacts with the European Union. Mr Putin told about preparations for the upcoming visit of King Carl XVI Gustaf to Russia.

The Russian and Swedish leaders also exchanged opinions on the situation in the Korean Peninsula.
