Mr Putin, who joined the expedition members by telephone, gave high praise for their exceptional scientific project, which involved a descent into the waters of the Arctic Ocean at a depth of more than four kilometres. The President thanked in particular the crew of the Mir mini-submarines, who descended into the Arctic depths and placed the Russian flag there.
