They discussed topical issues related to developing the Russian fuel and energy sector and the processing industries associated with that sector.

President pointed out that Russian companies have fallen far behind foreign companies with respect to processing petroleum and basic oil products.

The head of state emphasised that because Russia exports so many raw materials, it has to buy many products linked to oil and gas processing. Vladimir Putin said that the weakness of the domestic processing industry has substantial economic costs for Russia.
