Mr Putin said in his opening address that the Russian-Belarusian Union State, the Eurasian Economic Community, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, the GUAM and the Central Asian Economic Community could complement general cooperation and become a kind of testing ground to streamline certain partnership patterns, which could eventually be implemented throughout the Commonwealth of Independent States.
He stressed the importance of regional organisations working to strengthen the entire CIS and to attain the main goal—improve nations’ life and guarantee security to all CIS countries.
The meeting also discussed prospects of economic partnership, strategic stability, fight against drug trafficking, the Balkan situation and other current international issues.
The heads of state talked to journalists after the meeting. Mr Putin described the dialogue as very useful and extremely outspoken. He said it would have an impact on CIS countries’ practical activities.
