Discussing the situation in the Middle East, Vladimir Putin urged the necessity of an early Israeli-Palestinian settlement through the resumption of direct dialogue between the sides. Ariel Sharon noted the Israeli government’s determination to show patience, limiting the scope of anti-extremist activities to the absolutely necessary.
Mr Putin and Mr Sharon agreed to continue discussion of Middle Eastern matters and current issues of bilateral relations during the Israeli Prime Minister’s planned visit to Moscow.
