The President inspected the Solovetsky Saviour-Transfiguration Monastery, situated on the main island of the archipelago – Bolshoi Solovetsky Island.
Mr Putin and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexii II also made a guided tour of another island of the Solovetsky archipelago — Anzer — where they visited the Holy Trinity skete.
The President and the Patriarch flew round the Solovetsky archipelago by helicopter to see its sights.
After arriving back at the monastery, Mr Putin attended an evening divine service.
