The Presidents stressed the necessity for closer bilateral economic ties—in particular, in connection with Russian energy supplies to Poland.
Mr Putin and Mr Kwasniewski also discussed the problems the Kaliningrad Region had encountered due to the European Union enlargement. They said they both wanted Kaliningrad to become part of united Europe while staying a constituent entity of Russia.
Mr Kwasniewski approved Mr Putin’s initiative to carry on the dialogue on the Kaliningrad Region in a quadripartite format: Russia, Poland, the European Union and Lithuania.
The Presidents also discussed certain international problems, in particular, the Balkan situation.
