Both leaders said they were satisfied with the signing of the 2002 protocol for the Russian-Ukrainian agreement on additional measures to ensure the transit of Russian natural gas via Ukraine. Mr Putin and Mr Kuchma stressed that the protocol was an important step toward solving the gas problem in bilateral relations.
