The Russian leader stressed that the Audit Chamber was vested with special state functions, primarily monitoring the disbursement of federal allocations. The President said budgetary discipline was a key to national socio-economic prosperity.
Mr Putin said the Audit Chamber must oversee the disbursement of money derived from the use of state property.
The President thanked Audit Chamber officials for their performance in 2001 and wished them a happy New Year.
