Vladimir Putin sent a reply message to Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi

July 11, 2001

The message reads, in part:

“Thank you for your message forwarded to me by the Chairman of the National Federation of Industrial Organizations of Japan, Mr Imai. We had a very interesting and useful talk, on which I hope he has briefed you.

“I share the firm commitment you have expressed to maintaining the positive dynamics of the entire range of Russian-Japanese relations, including the broadening of trade and economic cooperation. I believe that the visit by the Japanese business delegation has been important in that way. For our part, and in response to your expressed wishes, we have tried to give maximum attention and assistance to the mission.

“I am sure that direct acquaintance with the political and economic situation in Russia and the plans of further reforms has convinced the Japanese business leaders that the investment climate in Russia is steadily improving and that the prospects for a dramatic expansion of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation are good.”
