Vladimir Putin met with Armenian President Robert Kocharian

August 23, 2007, Sochi

At the beginning of the meeting Vladimir Putin remarked on the truly allied relations that unite Russia and Armenia, as well as the increase in trade between the two countries. Over the first six months of this year trade between the two countries grew by 70 percent. Mr President emphasised the regular character of Russian-Armenian summit meetings, yet also pointed out that this meeting is a special one because in the next few days Russia and Armenia will celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the fundamental Russian-Armenian document, the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.

In his turn Robert Kocharian also referred to the growth of cooperation between Yerevan and Moscow in trade, economic, military, technical and political spheres. He declared that he welcomes the current positive dynamic in their countries’ bilateral relations and expressed his readiness to fully participate in this process.

The main theme of the talks was trade and economic cooperation. President Kocharian spoke highly of the fact that Russian business is increasingly interested in investing in Armenia. High growth rates in the Russian and Armenian economies make investment projects more attractive. Various energy projects and possibilities for developing the transport network are being actively discussed.
