Vladimir Putin visited Astrakhan's No.3 high school

September 1, 2007, Astrakhan

The President congratulated the teachers and pupils on the Day of Knowledge and wished them further success. Vladimir Putin also placed special emphasis on the fact that on this holiday it is impossible to forget the tragedy that took place several years ago in Beslan.

As he answered journalists' questions following the visit to the school, the head of state pointed out that the teachers he spoke with talked about the preliminary results of the national project Education. The President expressed his hope that the entire education system will further develop and improve.

Inside high school No.3 Vladimir Putin visited a history class, entered a music chamber where he watched the school's theatre troupe perform songs and also visited the gymnasium where Ekaterina Golberg, a teacher and world champion in sambo, gave lessons to students from grades 5 and 6. The President also met with older students, members of the school's basketball team.

Astrakhan's high school No.3 opened in 1993. 1,180 children study here, and there are advanced programmes that engage in a more in-depth study of English and German language and literature, history, Russian, math and science.
