As a result of the discussions APEC leaders adopted a joint statement on global climate change. The document's official name is the Sydney Declaration on Climate Change, Energy Security and Clean Development. Summit Chairman and Prime Minister of Australia John Howard announced this decision to adopt a statement.

Leaders of Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, Xian gang (Hong Kong), Indonesia, Canada, China, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the United States, Thailand, the Philippines, Chile , Taiwan and Japan participated in the APEC forum.

During the forum Vladimir Putin talked with a number of state leaders. In particular, President Putin continued his discussion with U.S. President George W. Bush.
