Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Heydar Aliyev of Azerbaijan held negotiations

Mr Putin and Mr Aliyev first talked one to one. Later, members of the delegations joined them.

Bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan were developing successfully in every area, Mr Putin said at the meeting with the Azerbaijani President. He underscored that relations were making progress both in the economy and in politics, contributing to better coordination of actions between the two countries.

Mr Putin noted that for the first time in many years the militaries of Russia and Azerbaijan were successfully cooperating, discussing military development issues of mutual interest and coordinating their efforts.

Mr Putin and Mr Aliyev pointed to the good teamwork of the two countries in solving the problems of the Caspian Sea.

President Putin expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan’s leadership for supporting the Russian language in their country.
