The Russian President wished Islam Karimov a happy birthday.

Both leaders subsequently discussed a number of important aspects of bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation in the Central Asian region.

A message sent by Vladimir Putin to the Uzbek President earlier in the day said:

“I am pleased to know that the actively developing bilateral dialogue facilitates expanded multi-faceted Russian-Uzbek relations and more profound and mutually beneficial cooperation in the interests of regional peace and security.

“I am convinced that the existing positive potential of bilateral cooperation creates a solid foundation for long-term bilateral strategic partnership.”
