President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with President Askar Akayev of Kyrgyzstan

The two heads of state discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including cooperation in the financial sphere.

The two presidents exchanged ideas on the course of preparation of a Russian cultural festival in Kyrgyzstan.

During their discussions of multilateral cooperation they touched upon issues related to a forthcoming summit of the Eurasian Economic Community in Moscow in May.

Mr Putin and Mr Akayev also paid attention to the situation in Central Asia in the context of the counter-terrorism operation in Afghanistan.
