President Vladimir Putin met with Gennady Seleznev, the State Duma speaker

April 4, 2002, The Kremlin, Moscow

They discussed the State Duma’s law-making plans for the spring session. Gennady Seleznev also informed the President of the current situation at the lower house of the Russian parliament.

The President said he was not going to interfere with the State Duma’s decision to replace its speaker. However, in Vladimir Putin’s opinion, there was no reason for this. Vladimir Putin said this in his conversation with journalists.

The President called Gennady Seleznev a good specialist and stressed that over 20 million Russians who voted for the Communist Party in the past parliamentary election had the right to see their representative at one of the key posts in this country.
