Russia's President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Tony Blair

April 5, 2002

The two countries’ leaders “synchronised the clock” on relevant issues of international politics. They focused on the situation in the Middle East and discussed ways to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation as soon as possible. They also touched on issues related to Russia-NATO negotiations on the formation of a framework for the G20 political group [of developing nations] and strategic stability issues.

In discussing bilateral relations, Vladimir Putin and Tony Blair pointed to the importance of the fifth regular Russian economic forum (to be held in London on April 17–19) as a major event for further boosting Russian-British trade and economic ties.
