President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with U.S. President George W. Bush

April 12, 2002

Mr Putin and Mr Bush discussed current issues of bilateral relations and progress in the negotiations on major aspects of international security – strategic stability and Russia-NATO relations.

Mr Putin and Mr Bush declared themselves in support of a Russia-NATO summit at the end of May of this year in Rome to adopt a document that would determine a new level of quality in relations between Russia and NATO.

Views were exchanged on current international issues, above all the situation in the Middle East.
